I hope everyone's doing ok. I know I haven't updated this in a while, but I'm still here and I sense the Lord is about to do some awesome things in me and through me. For more info, go to my MySpace blog: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=12061918&blogId=514099829
I know I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm confident someone still cares enough to read this. Well, I have two prayer requests. My sister who lives out in Utah was just laid off and is looking for another job, so pray that she finds work again soon. Also, I've had the flu since Monday and even though it isn't as severe as it was, I still have quite a bad case of diarrhea. Please ask for God to give me a speedy recovery (I hate having to spend all day on the toilet!).
What a year this has been. The economy taking a dive, the first African-American president being elected (which is quite an accomplishment, though I have serious concerns about where Obama stands on some of the issues), gas prices spiking and then falling like a rock, and the Detroit Lions finishing a perfect losing season (hmmm... reminds me of Charlie Brown). The time has now come to look ahead to 2009, which means another list of New Year’s resolutions. Here are mine:
Go on a mission trip. I haven’t been on one in 6 years and I’d love to get the chance both to travel and reach people for Christ elsewhere in the world. Some of the places I’d love to go to include Peru (as a group from my church will be going there in June, I’m gonna be praying about going with them), Brazil, Germany (I have quite a heart for that country, as my dad’s 2nd wife is from there), China, Indonesia and Egypt (with the weather we’ve been getting recently, someplace hot and dry is sounding pretty good right now ).
Pray and fast more. Like many people, I find it challenging sometimes to tune everything out and focus on God.
Learn and master a foreign language. I’d especially like to learn Spanish, Portuguese and German (this is where some of you from other countries can be of help).
Land and hold onto a good-paying job. With the economy here in Michigan the way it is, this isn’t going to be easy (in fact, I may ultimately have to move elsewhere as God leads me). However, I’m not worried, because I know God will provide.
Find a suitable mate. I understand that this one will be more of a challenge (as I’m not that good when it comes to 1-on-1 communication), but I have faith that if God wants me to get married in the future, He will guide me to the right woman. Speaking of which, any takers? If so, please send me a message telling me a little bit about yourself and that you’re interested.
If any of you have some resolutions you’d like to share, I’d love to hear them. I just hope they’re not really weird sounding (like "quit selling used underwear on eBay" or "quit peeing off the diving board").
On a more personal note, earlier this year I lost both of my grandfathers. 2009 won’t be the same without them.

I’ll always remember how he used to take me and my sisters to MacKenzie’s Party Store to pick out a treat and then tell us to eat it on the way back so we wouldn’t get in trouble. Also, I’ll never forget how good he was with his hands (he loved fixing cars).

I’m gonna miss our early morning walks to get the paper (plus his huge "Grandpa size" pieces of pie on Thanksgiving). Also, he was one of those people who dozed off when the TV was on, but if you grabbed the remote and changed the channel on him, he’d wake up yelling, "Hey! I was watching that!"
Well, it appears Rev. Jeremiah Wright may have actually been onto something...
What an absolutely awful night to be an unborn baby! The American people have just elected the most radically anti-life, pro-abortion major party presidential candidate in history. God gave Americans the chance to choose either life or death, and they chose death. I sure hope and pray that God forgives us as a nation for so blatantly defying His will and insisting on our own way.
Here's what I expect from a Barack Obama presidency:
1) The Freedom of Choice Act (unless the GOP can somehow filibuster it), which would nullify every pro-life law in the country. If this passes, I would seriously suggest that those of you reading this in South Dakota and other strongly pro-life states call your state legislators urging them to vote to secede from the Union over this issue. This may trigger a civil war over abortion, but it can't be any worse than the status quo if Obama gets his way.
2) A bill repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, opening the floodgates for (possibly) same-sex marriage nationwide by court order.
3) The Fairness Doctrine. If this passes, conservative talk radio as we know it would be history, as anything deemed by the left-wing elite as "controversial" would need to be countered by an equal amount of time for opposing viewpoints. This would make it increasingly difficult for Christians to share the Gospel via the radio airwaves (and possibly TV and the Internet too, depending on how far liberals want to take the idea).
4) Higher taxes for businesses, which could cost many people their jobs (even though others who might've lost their jobs under McCain may be able to breathe a sigh of relief because of less outsourcing).
5) Universal (or near-universal) health care. I actually favor a form of universal health care, but not the socialist-type plan Obama wants to put into effect. What we need is health care that is easily available for Americans of all different classes, but that is of good quality (which requires a competitive market for health insurance).
6) A swift pullout from Iraq and a foreign policy that ceases to be pro-Israel. Those of you reading this who are Jewish, I feel for you, because I have a feeling Iran will soon attack Israel (which may be the "test" Joe Biden was talking about) and they won't get much help from anyone.
7) A radically different environmental policy that would cripple our economy by severely punishing the coal and oil industries.
These are just a few things I think will happen. However, I do see a bit of a silver lining in all this. This paves the way (assuming our nation survives) for Mike Huckabee (who I voted for in the primaries) to run again for president in 2012. With McCain and Palin now out of the way and supporters of Mitt Romney effectively silenced by the Fairness Doctrine I talked about earlier in this post, Huckabee likely becomes the standard-bearer (or at least a standard-bearer) of the Republican Party. Hopefully the people will get sick and tired of Obama in four years and want change again (this time for the better).
Anyway, now you, my readers can't say I didn't warn you. Btw, I'm not dissing Obama because of race (in fact, I have a lot of black friends, both online and in person). I'm just pointing out that this stuff is likely to happen. I would encourage people to pray hard for America, for we need an awakening (as well as reconciliation after one of the most racially polarized elections in history). Regardless of your political persuasion, it's time to come together and seek God. Who knows? Maybe the new President-elect will see the light and prove to be one of our best leaders instead of what I fear he may be. With that I'll shut my trap and start praying. May God help us!
